Amasonga Testimonials

Yesterday I was a child on the streets, today I am an "Amasonga of CECYDAR"

An Amasonga is a child who has been rehabilitated by CECYDAR since its inception in 1992. He has achieved his life and social graduation. With the others, he fought to get out of his situation that was a priori inextricable, he is the point of the arrow. He is in the "foreground", he drives all the others in the right direction (this is the meaning of the word "Amasonga"). To all children, CECYDAR gives as much as possible the basics to rebuild itself, benchmarks to orient oneself. It is a key passage in the life of each child, a place of affection where he found strength and courage to grasp the difficulties. His attachment continues today. The Amasonga regularly return to the center to greet staff and children in rehabilitation to give them testimonials, which is another way of rehabilitating children based on tangible facts, having a meal, sharing experiences. It is always a great joy when one of them announces his marriage, the children participate happily, they give their hand if necessary in various activities of the center as repair of electricity, etc. Social fulfillment is then at its peak.

Here are some testimonials of Amasonga :

Emmanuel Nshimiyimana

I found myself on the street due the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi after losing contact with my parents and siblings. I was brought to Cecydar for rehabilitation in 1997, reintegrated in a foster family after successfully completing the rehabilitation program. CECYDAR continued to support my studies until university graduation where I got a university degree in Law. I got married in 2018, I currently have two children, a boy and a girl and a judge in Rusizi District court , Western province in Rwanda.

I am now in highschool, I left home to the street due to a serious family problem. My parents gave me difficult home chores to do. I first stayed 3 months in transit at Gikondo, a year at CECYDAR then went back to my family. Unfortunately they have not changed and they keep asking me to perform heavy home duties. But I am in a better state of mind : I decided to make efforts and to wait to study. The centre gave me the taste of attending classes, going to school while I did not like it before. I erased the bad ideas that were embedded in my head while I lived in the violence on the street. Today, I am in hope despite the difficulties.

I was a street child for two years from 2004 to 2006 due to poverty in my family. I was accommodated at CECYDAR in March 2006 and went through the rehabilitation program. I was later integrated in my family where I attended technical school, where I studied welding with CECYDAR’s support through education project. I started a small welding enterprise which helps me earn a living and I got married in 2020.

Orphan of father and mother since 2007, I lived in the centre between 2009 and 2011 before being reintegrated. CECYDAR has continued to lend me a hand especially school fees. Originally from Nyamata, I have already graduated from Garden Technical Secondary School. I thank CECYDAR very much, it helps me a lot. The advice I have received will allow me to build my future life.
