Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba

Cyprien Rugamba was born in 1935, in the Southern province of Rwanda. He studied at the Grand Seminary first, later on he studied history in Burundi and then in Belgium, where he graduated. He then became a senior official and acquired a certain celebrity in the country as a poet, musician, composer and choreographer.
Daphrose Mukasanga, his wife, born in 1944 and grew up in the same village as her future husband, she worked as a teacher and a housewife.

Commitment

Daphrose is a practicing and committed Catholic Christian. Her husband, who had lost faith, had a late reconversion, after which they lived a life of intense faith through the charismatic renewal and exert charity to the sick and abandoned children. In 1992, they founded an accommodation center for street children called CECYDAR (Center Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba).Since 194, the centre has reintegrated 5215 children in their families. In 1989, during a trip to France, they visited the Emmanuel Community in Paray-le-Monial and decided to become the founders of Emmanuel community in Rwanda.
